11:38 PA agents take TIPH patrol vehicle in Hebron

PA agents in Hebron this morning took a patrol vehicle belonging to the "Temporary International Presence in Hebron" (TIPH).

Security sources believe that the PA military may try to make use of the vehicle in ambushing and attacking Jews or IDF soldiers in the city. They did not yet comment on the possibility that someone inside TIPH may have cooperated in the theft.

Senior IDF officers revealed several weeks ago that TIPH members were spying for the PA, passing them information to help in armed attacks against Jews and IDF soldiers.

President Moshe Katzav recently sent a harsh letter to UN Secretary-General Anan expressing his strong consternation over the UN's conduct regarding the abduction of four Israelis by Hizbullah. Katzav noted that over ten months have passed since the abduction of Israeli soldiers Sgt. Adi Avitan, St.-Sgt. Binyamin Avraham, and St.-Sgt. Omar Souad and Israeli businessman Elchanan Tenenbaum. "It is a great error," the President wrote, "to claim that the UN must maintain objectivity between a sovereign UN-member state, and a terrorist organization that does not accept the UN's authority." Neither did the UN react appropriately to the use of its symbols by a terrorist organization during the abduction, wrote Katzav. "It is the UN's duty to assist in finding the abductees... Israel expects the UN to intervene [and] to use all its influence in order to supply the families of the abducted soldiers with every piece of information about their condition." The President concluded by noting his great respect and esteem for UN Secy.-Gen. Anan, and requesting Anan's personal intervention in the tragic case.

And how would the UN act in "observing forces" in Israel? Here is a mini example from the Hevron agreements from 1997: (Yesha News August 21, 2001)
TIPH cuts down on presence in Hebron's Jewish Quarter

The "Temporary International Presence in Hebron" announced yesterday that they will be minimizing their presence in the Jewish Quarter of Hebron.

Earlier this month, senior IDF intelligence sources reported that TIPH members have been spying for Arab military forces, passing along pictures and information to help Arab forces in their armed attacks on Jewish residents and IDF soldiers.
